The Junior baboon camp has had a makeover! One Saturday afternoon Jo led the volunteers in a building and painting frenzy whilst fellow Wildlife Co-ordinato, Elzette, took the Juniors out on a walk leaving the camp empty.
We decided the juniors deserved a bit of a treat and some home improvements, so we gathered together as many spare materials as we possibly could and built lots of wooden playing frames, with ropes, swinging tyres and ladders for them to clamber over. We also painted the new structures and some of the trees branches in purple and blue to stimulate their playful natures.It took a couple of hours for the team to complete all the work, which they needed to finish before the baboons returned from their walk.
And when they did return, the look of suprise on their faces was magic! We hid cabbages, apples and oranges all around the camp, in the trees, through the tyres, so the baboons had to explore their new home like a treasure hunt. Not a problem for those with a taste for food like Bloomie, although some of the other girls like Lala and Kayla struggled to pull out the cabbages which were wedged inside the tyres!

In other news, Bakkies remains alpha male in the troop and is starting to win over Bloomie as an ally. Usually when Bakkies takes his erratic temper out on the volunteers, Bloomie puts him in line, although recently she has started to come to his defence more and more, making the pair a formidable force together!
