Baby Baboons update January 2011

Since our two new baby baboons arrived – Rafiki and Rudi – the number of babies has increased to eight. Our female babies (Shauna, Carola, Bonnie and Lola) love taking care of both new babies and even Gus and Clyde have been showing paternal instincts and can often be spotted hugging the babies tightly!

Rafiki, named after the baboon in the Lion King, is 3 months old and was found clinging to his mother’s body after she had been shot.

Sleep tight Rafiki

Senior Baboons update January 2011

The poor seniors got an almighty shock when a wild male baboon jumped into their camp earlier this week. The screams could be heard all over the farm but luckily Wildlife Co-ordinator Shaun came running to the rescue and chased the wild baboon away, receiving a grateful hug from Sarafina as a reward!

Big Baboons - January 2011

There has been quite a lot of drama on the big baboon walks recently as a lone male wild baboon has been trying to join the N/a'an Ku Se troop and get friendly our female baboons! Whilst the wild baboon frightened Maria, who had to be calmed down with hugs and chocolate, Dory was being rather flirty with him! Nemo didn't seem too bothered by the wild male encroaching on his territory and he didn't appear concerned about protecting his ladies so it fell to Cila to chase the wild baboon off armed with a paintball gun! A few warning shots of white paint whizzing past the wild baboon seemed to do the trick and he hasn't been back!
